In these unprecedented times – where most of the nation is working remotely – Channel 4 has shared with us its first virtual content showcase to highlight why TV is more important than ever. We were delighted to take part in the session yesterday afternoon (16th April) which was hosted by the presenter of Channel 4’s The Bake Off: The Professionals, Tom Allen.
Channel 4’s Content Manager, Marcus Bellamy, discussed in relation to current productions, the challenges faced to maintain a unique schedule with minimal effect for the on-screen viewer. Channel 4 has taken it upon themselves to ensure they help inform, entertain and lift viewers spirits through these uncertain times. This has been done through thinking of new, creative ways around how they can keep some of their biggest shows on air, including the Sunday Brunch cast filming from their own homes and Jamie Oliver’s family filming his show ‘Keep Cooking Carry On’.
Channel 4 has also taken strides to keep the nation informed during this period, utilising its established brand Channel 4 News and broadcasting a string of COVID-19 documentaries.
Looking forward, the broadcaster announced some great content which they have coming up this quarter, such as the new series of ‘First Dates Hotel’, ‘Celebrity SAS’ and ‘Friday Night Dinner’. They also announced ‘Lockdown Academy’ which is a range of bespoke content to keep people feeling inspired in their own homes with their families, which is what we all need right now!
