Yesterday afternoon OMD UK tuned into Channel 4’s recent Stay Tuned Live webinar. The focus of discussion was centered around the raft of new and returning content across All4 and linear channels that we have to look forward to over the coming months.
Channel4’s, four key pillars of focus for the year were; Investing in All4, reflecting the mood of the nation, a schedule packed with fun and joy and lastly, representing all of Britain.
Britain’s agreement with these pillars was demonstrated perfectly through the success of the recently launched ‘It’s a Sin’ which they were really proud to shout about and should be! The hard hitting drama set in the 1980’s has received over 7m views on All4 and is the most binged watched series on their platform. This is mirrored by its success on linear channels and has consolidated at 3.3m individuals, so a great start to the year for Channel 4 and a perfect example of them tapping into their focus of truly representing all of Britain.
Channel 4 continue to help lift the mood of the nation through a schedule that reflects escapism & joy. Some familiar favourites will be returning to our screens in March starting with ‘Celebrity Bake Off’ in aid of Stand Up To Cancer. There is a great celebrity line up, to name a few; James McAvoy, Daisy Ridley and Tom Allen. Channel 4 have high hopes this will perform well. ‘Gogglebox’ will also be returning for its 17th series! The last two series have been the biggest to date, and Channel 4 anticipate this growth to continue. Lastly, a celebrity twist of ‘The Circle’ will also be launching in March ahead of the normal series with another great celebrity cast.
Whilst times ahead still may seem uncertain, Channel 4 are excited for what’s to come. They are hosting a ‘Friday Night Dinner’ takeover night to celebrate the 10 year anniversary with a special behind the scenes show. On the night they will show the nation’s three favourite episodes via a vote, so make sure to get involved. They will also be hosting a Black Takeover Day to amplify conversations around representation and diversity, it will be great to see how they reimagine some of their top shows.
Thanks Channel 4 for a great session, there is some exciting stuff to come!
