- A major (if somewhat unsettling) leap forward as computers can now read linguistic thoughts, leading to new kinds of neural interface

- Average UK broadband speeds have increased 22% in 12 months to 7.6mbps
- Almost half a billion smartphones were bought in 2011, more than all desktops, laptops and tablets combined
