OMD UK appoints Carl Read as new head of digital and David Josephs to OMD UK board

Today OMD UK announces the appointment of Carl Read to become the agency’s new head of digital. Read will report directly into managing director, Dan Clays, and will join the agency’s board, which currently consists of 12 partners.

Read brings over 11 years of digital experience to the role, joining OMD UK from Channel 4 where he was Digital Leader and played an instrumental role in the success of the media owner’s extended digital portfolio. Previously he worked at MEC, where he fulfilled several digital leadership positions, including head of digital strategy and head of digital activation, during his five year tenure. During this period Read worked with clients such as Everything Everywhere and Orange and was also awarded Media Week’s 30 under 30.

At OMD UK, Read will assume responsibility for the agency’s digital output across all channels, including display, search, social and mobile. He will work closely with the agency’s creative director, Ann Wixley, and head of activation, Vicky Fox, to ensure that creativity and innovation remain at the heart of the agency’s digital offering and that clients are delivered strategic, best-in-class digital solutions.

Of the appointment, Dan Clays, managing director OMD UK, says “Carl is an exceptional talent with a unique background to further enhance our digital offering at OMD. He has infectious enthusiasm for what’s possible and will be a brilliant leader for the agency”. Of the move, Jon Lewis, head of digital and partnership innovation Channel 4, said “Carl played a short but compelling role in the transition of C4’s digital offering and we wish him well as he goes back into agency life – we look forward to working with him as a client and also as our agency advisor”.

OMD UK also announces the hiring of David Josephs from Mindshare, who also joins the agency board as a Client Partner. Josephs has been at Mindshare for 13 years – most recently running Mazda and Nestle Confectionary.
